Laser hair removal

Leg laser hair removal in Málaga

Leg laser hair removal gives long-lasting, progressive reduction of hair on the lower legs or full legs, including feet and toes, using a diode laser with a cooled sapphire tip. At Narumi, in Málaga city centre, it's carried out by Marta Fernández. Full legs take around 40–50 minutes per session; most people need 6 to 8 sessions, every 8–10 weeks, so it's worth starting in autumn to be ready for summer.

What you can (and can't) expect

What it helps with

  • Leg hair, which grows back sparser, finer and slower
  • Spots and redness after shaving, especially on the thighs and knees
  • Ingrown hairs from waxing or shaving
  • The dark dots shaved hair leaves in the skin (strawberry legs)
  • Hair on the tops of the feet and toes

What it doesn't do

  • It doesn't improve varicose veins, thread veins or circulation
  • It doesn't improve cellulite or skin texture
  • It doesn't work on light or grey hair

Is it right for you?

Ideal for

  • Anyone who shaves their legs every few days and is tired of the razor
  • Anyone prone to ingrown hairs or spots after waxing
  • Anyone who wants to get to summer without thinking about hair removal
  • Cyclists, runners and swimmers who shave their legs

When we don't carry it out

  • Over prominent varicose veins, thread veins or phlebitis: check with your doctor, and we work around them
  • Legs that are tanned or have had fake tan in the last 15 days
  • Infected spots, broken skin or eczema in the area
  • Pregnancy
  • Over tattoos, moles or marks that are changing
  • Photosensitising medication without your doctor's go-ahead

If you're unsure about your own situation, check with your doctor first. We'll go through it with you at your initial consultation.

Your session, step by step

  1. Half or full legs

At your consultation we look at where the hair that bothers you is, and whether it's worth treating just the lower leg or the whole leg.

  2. Shaving

Come shaved from the day before, including knees, feet and toes. If you've missed a patch at the back, we'll tidy it up.

  3. Checking the skin

Before any pulses, we check moles, visible veins and irritated patches so we can leave them out.

  4. Pulses area by area

We cover thighs and calves in broad passes, and take more care over knees, ankles and toes, where the bone is closer to the surface.

  5. Soothing

A soothing moisturiser and a reminder about sun protection, especially if your legs will be on show.

A large area at a slower pace

Legs are one of the largest areas treated with laser, and also one of the slowest: leg hair takes longer to renew than facial or underarm hair. That’s why sessions are spaced 8 to 10 weeks apart, and why a full course takes up a good part of a year. It’s not a drawback if you plan well, and in Málaga planning is practically essential.

Not every part of the leg responds the same way. Hair on the calves and lower legs is usually coarser and darker and shows results sooner. Hair on the inner thigh can be finer. Knees, ankles and toes, with bone close to the skin, are where you’ll feel the pulses most.

Ingrown hairs, spots and irritated skin

Many people come to leg laser because of the side effects of hair removal: red spots after shaving, especially on the thighs; hairs trapped under the skin after waxing; and dark dots that won’t go even straight after shaving. By reducing the hair and making it finer, laser also reduces the chances of all this happening.

If there are pus-filled spots or very irritated patches on the day, they aren’t treated until they settle. And if the irritation is frequent even though you shave carefully, it’s worth having your dermatologist assess it.

Varicose veins and visible veins: when not to

Before each session we check your legs in good light. Prominent varicose veins, thread veins and any area with phlebitis or pain are left out: laser hair removal isn’t designed for them and doesn’t improve them. If you have a diagnosed circulation problem, talk to your doctor first. If what you’re after is a feeling of lighter legs, pressotherapy is a different beauty treatment that you can combine at another appointment.

Getting to summer in Málaga

A realistic schedule: first session between October and December, the rest roughly every two months, and a pause when beach season starts. That way you reach June with much of the work done and pick up again in autumn. To plan month by month, read our guide to laser hair removal and the Málaga sun.

After your session

Aftercare

  • SPF 50 on your legs if they're uncovered during the next 15 days; trousers or a long skirt if you can
  • No waxing, tweezing or epilators between sessions; razor only
  • No sauna, very hot baths or chlorinated pools for 24–48 hours
  • Avoid very tight compression tights and heavy friction on the first day, unless your doctor has advised otherwise
  • From day three, gentle exfoliation with a mitt helps the treated hair shed

It's normal to notice

  • Bumps and redness around the follicles, more visible on the thighs, for a few hours
  • Little dots that look like hair still growing: it's the treated hair working its way out before it sheds

Frequently asked questions

Where can I get leg laser hair removal in Málaga?

At Narumi, Calle Cristo de la Epidemia 33, in Málaga city centre, a few minutes' walk from El Ejido and La Victoria. We use a diode laser with a cooled sapphire tip, and Marta Fernández carries out the consultation and every session. Since legs are a long session, we book exactly the time needed to do them without rushing.

When should I start to have my legs ready for summer?

Ideally between October and December. With sessions every 8–10 weeks, that gives you four or five before June, by which point the hair has reduced a lot. In summer, with your legs in the sun on the beach, it's best to pause or space sessions out and pick up again in autumn. Starting in spring still gets you somewhere, but you'll reach summer with fewer sessions done.

Half legs or full legs?

It depends on where the hair that bothers you is. If your thigh hair is sparse or very light, half legs may be enough. If you shave your whole leg, full legs work out better value than doing half legs and extending later. You can always start with half legs and switch to full legs at any session. Prices for both options and the package are in the table on this page.

Can feet and toes be treated too?

Yes. Hair on the tops of the feet and toes is usually coarse and dark, and responds well. It can be added to your legs and is included in the full legs, feet, underarms and pubic area package. The bone is close to the skin there, so you'll feel it a little more; we treat it with careful pulses and the cooling of the sapphire tip.

Can I have laser if I have varicose veins?

We don't fire pulses over prominent varicose veins, thread veins or areas with phlebitis: we leave them out and treat the rest of the leg. If you have a diagnosed vascular condition, have had a thrombosis, or your legs feel swollen or sore, check with your doctor first. Laser hair removal doesn't improve varicose veins or circulation; its only target is the hair.

Does laser help with ingrown hairs on the legs?

It usually helps a great deal. Ingrown hairs and spots after shaving or waxing appear when hair grows awkwardly under the skin; with less hair, and finer hair, there are fewer chances for that. If you have pus-filled or very inflamed spots on the day, we don't treat that area until it settles, and if they keep coming back, it's worth having your dermatologist look at them.

How long does a full legs session take?

Around 40 to 50 minutes, and a little longer if we add feet, underarms and pubic area in the package. Half legs take around 20–30 minutes. The time stays similar as the sessions go on, because there's the same surface to cover, but it feels easier as there's less hair.

Can I go to the beach between leg sessions?

Yes, as long as you don't tan in the 15 days before or the 15 days after each session. In Málaga, with good weather almost all year, that means SPF 50 every day if your legs are uncovered, and no sunbathing during those weeks. If you're planning to tan on purpose, it's better to pause the plan and pick it up again once the tan has faded.

What should I do if hair grows between sessions?

Shave it whenever you like: a razor cuts the hair at the surface and leaves the root, which is what the laser needs. Avoid waxing, tweezing and epilators. In the two or three weeks after each session you'll see hair that seems to be growing: it's the treated hair working its way out before it falls, and gentle exfoliation helps.
